What to Expect

Guidance

Our goal is to be a Bible-centered church because we believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. We hold the Bible as our only guide in religious matters.

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. – Acts 2:42 (KJV)

Worship/Music

There are song books on the back of the pews, or you can read the lyrics projected on the screen at the front of the auditorium. All of our music is a cappella — without any accompaniment from music instruments. Everyone is invited to participate.

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. – Ephesians 5:19 (KJV)
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. – Colossians 3:16 (KJV)

Communion

Communion is included in the worship service every Sunday. This is a time when Christians remember the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and a time to reflect, remember, and prioritize our lives around the loving sacrifice Jesus offered for us.

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. – Acts 2:42 (KJV)
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. – Acts 20:7 (KJV)

Offering

An offering is collected weekly from our members to continue the work of the church. As our guest, please do not feel an obligation to make a contribution.

Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. – 1 Corinthians 16:2 (KJV)
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. – 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV)

Common Questions

What are your services like?

People describe our church services as worshipful, energetic and loving. Service typically lasts about 60 minutes and includes singing/worship, the communion service, offering, and a lesson from our pulpit minister.

What should I wear?

When you attend services at Broad Street Church of Christ, you will find people wearing everything from jeans to suits. Please wear clothing in which you are comfortable worshipping God. We strive for all our guest to feel completely welcome — whether you are casually dressed or in your “Sunday best”.

What’s expected of first-time visitors?

The one expectation we have for our guests is that you leave with the desire to return. You will meet a group of friendly people, who will welcome you warmly. You will not be embarrassed by being asked to publicly identify yourself, participate in the offering, or take any visible role.

What about my kids?

We want to make sure that both children and adults enjoy an encouraging and inspiring time each Sunday. In order for parents to be able to devote their attention to the service, an attended nursery is available for children to enjoy an age-appropriate time of learning and fun.
